New Literacies & MediaAt the end of this course I was able to:
-Expand my practical and theoretical definitions of literacy to include emerging media and technologies -Expand my repertoire of media and technology skills and resources pertinent to their specific teaching context -Examine research that demonstrates the effectiveness of new literacies for student engagement and achievement. In order to address the question of how i can engage students in political conversations through the concepts taught in North Carolina's Civics & Economics, I completed the following tasks. NBC Learn Lesson (formerly ICUE) "Seven Roles of the President" Students used a PowerPoint presentation to review the roles of the president. I gathered clips from ICUE in which various former presidents were portraying each role. As student watched each video clip they had to select which role the president was using on their viewing card. Inquiry Learning Project Andrew Witt and I decided to team up and tackle one of the major objectives of state and local government in the Civics & Economics course. We both found that across the state most students perform poorly o the following learning objective. Learning Objective: To have students grasp the concept of the different branches of government at the state level, their responsibilities, and how they are different from federal branches of government. Students will create a xtranormal presentation to show the difference between the federal and state governments.
